Understand that this new tax will not ease congestion. It might help replace the viaduct, which 95% of the population never uses; but more money will be needed before this can happen, and the Mayor who is winning a new term will likely balk at anything short of a tunnel so that he doesn’t have to deal with the fact that under his tenure the sea wall has been deteriorating. Defeating I-912 might add an HOV lane to SR-520’s Evergreen Point floating bridge; more money will be needed, and no additional single-passenger lanes are under consideration.
