Chatting with Angela about my disproportionate lack of interpersonal communication skills:
Angela: well ppl don’t just say “yes i was offended”
Ryan: I say that
Ryan: well, I don’t say that
Angela: what do you mean
Ryan: because I’m not offended by anything
Ryan: but, if I were offended I would say so
Angela: i know you would
Angela: not everyone does though
Angela: sometimes it can be kind of tactless to just outright say “i’m offended”
Ryan: well, that clearly makes them less cool
Angela: hey
Angela: sometimes i don’t say “i’m offended”
Angela: are you saying i’m less cool?
Ryan: are you offended by that?
Hrm…

Currently, I am at a LAN party at Erik’s house. Funny how that works.

While debating politial things with Erik of Freedomdown.net the other day, I made some incorrect assumptions. A transcript (minor edits for clarity) may illustrate this point:

I noticed while logged into sf2 today that bob was logged in, running “vim wp-layout.css”. This could only mean one thing: Bobby’s weblog, Colorless Green Ideas, was being worked on. I accidently destroyed the last incarnation of CGI while teaching some people about how to use MySQL, and I am happy to see that a new version is looming on the horizon.
And then I saw it – especially that top bar (check it out now), and I began thinking again about how I keep saying I’m going to do something to my site, but I never get around to it. After this most recent episode, however, “never” is at least one increment of motivation closer to “soon.”

Some people apologize too much. When I say “Some people”, I mean people like Bobby and Angela. Bobby is funny, because when I mention that he really doesn’t need to apologize so much, he apologizes for apologizing so much. Angela, well, she just pretends to apologize for apologizing too much, because she knows I find it funny when Bobby does it, because, well, I told her so.
In other news, Austin made a pretty good apology at each of the last TRC leadership meetings, but his lack of action after each one is disconcerting. Maybe his should therefore be termed “under apologies” or “premature apologies”, because, for goodness’ sake, finish screwing off before you spend the energy apologizing. Actually, I don’t know if I mean that last sentence, but it was fun to write, and for that I make no apology.

A bike trip is in my future. A long bike trip. A very long bike trip.
I learned this today, when Scott called me. After the usualy formalities (or, more appropriately, in our case, informalities), he proposed the idea. At the same time, a little cellphone blip caused the word “bike” to be muffled, and all I heard was “_____ trip from Maine to Florida.” Since we have previously been on a road trip, I assumed that the blank word was “road,” so I immediately proposed that we start from here, drive to Maine, and then down to Florida. Then he repeated himself, and this time, I cauhgt the word “Bike.”
Oooooooooooh. I readily agreed. East coast? Be prepared – we’re coming, summer of 2005.

There are plenty of movies where the characters, and sometimes even you as a watcher, don’t know who is who. Like in Mission Impossible with Ethan and his masks. It makes for interesting film, but I’ve never had to deal with the situation in real-life – until recently. The issue involves AOL Instant Messanger and a particular person who doesn’t seem to realize her friends are sneaky mischiefmakers. Several times over the past few weeks, I have come to the startlng revalation that I’m not talking to who I think I’m talking to, and its atually somewhat disturbing, to say the least. Its not like I’ve said anything I’m embarassed about, but, well, do people get off doing this or what?
