{"id":10,"date":"2004-07-01T21:39:09","date_gmt":"2004-07-02T04:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/arcanius.silverfir.net\/wp\/?p=10"},"modified":"2004-07-01T21:39:38","modified_gmt":"2004-07-02T04:39:38","slug":"the-curse-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arcanius.silverfir.net\/blog\/the-curse-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"The Curse Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Today&#8217;s Ultimate game proved just as futile as the rest, but now I have a theory&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Celebrating <a href=\"http:\/\/meowzors.foxsquare.com\/\">Hester<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mit.edu\/~storborg\/\">Scott&#8217;s<\/a> last week on the west coast, we had an extra game of ultimate today. Once again, the elements conspired to ensure that my team lost. Down by four points with 35 minutes to go until 9:00, and with a fresh reinforcement to even out the teams, a soccer league that had the field reserved displaced us, and the game abruptly ended, my team loosing again.<\/p>\n<p>However, because it was particularly apparent today, I developed a theory around my loosing streak. People seem to have a flattering, but hopelessly overblown opinion of my ultimate skills. Sure, I&#8217;m pretty good all-around, but I&#8217;m not the fastest, I&#8217;m not the tallest, I don&#8217;t have the most accurate throw&#8230; in short, I&#8217;m just another guy out there.  But this myth remains. So when teams are chosen, somehow my side always ends up with a man down, or a slightly <abbr title=\"to stack, v. to fill one team with superior players\">stacked<\/abbr> opposing team, which, since I really am <em>not<\/em> that good, inevitibly leads to my team&#8217;s loss.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, maybe I&#8217;m just deluding myself into thinking that I&#8217;m all that. Its very possible that I simply am so bad that I pull my entire team down.
