The one historical trend I have seen in school shootings is that the best way to keep the death toll down is with a rapid armed response. Even when the assailant isn’t confronted directly, often times these people decide to blow their own heads off rather than let someone else do it.
I am extremely against attempts to ban guns from university campuses. This will only stop law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. You think any nutjob with a grudge ever asked himself “You know, I was thinking about shooting up a bunch of classmates who teased me, but I saw a sign posted in the parking lot saying I shouldn’t bring guns to school…” ?
Now as to cars…
