Software Test Intern

Nearly 18 months into my “3-6 month” internship at Microvision, I continue to find ways to impress myself with my software testing prowess. Details must remain hazy, but let me just say that a test I developed continues to have exact correlation with a much more time-consuming test that has been used for much longer. Yet the best part of the job is the nearly constant learning opportunities that I encounter. The weeks without something to learn are very few and far between. Combined with almost limitless flexibility and a great group of people to work with, what more could I ask for? Well, other than a reverse in the trend of the stock price, hey?

Maybe I just take a much longer term view of the stock market than most, but I think that it is much more important that the officers/board of a company focus on improving the company’s product fitness and general financial health, rather than focusing on stock prices, unless the trend is manifest over more than a year and a half or so.

Theo, I think you’re absolutely right – and that is why I support primarily long-term compensation for company executives, so that they get rewarded for making good long-term decisions, and not for driving the immediate price up. For example, pay execs with actual stock that contractually cannot be sold or transfered for one to five years… then, by the time the stock is available, the executive will have so much more waiting another year out, that he or she will continue to look to the long-term success of the company, which is what stockholders should really want.
